Lesson 4: Recent Indigenous Activism Movements Lesson Procedure
Overview
Students will review the various components of what makes up a song and do another listening exercise like the previous lesson. From there students will be given time to start creating their own song lyrics.

Opening Activity
- Ask students to reflect on what they learned about the Native American protest movements of the 1960s and 1970s.
- Ask them if they have heard of any more recent activism by Indigenous people in the U.S. and Canada or throughout the world?
- Give them a chance to share what they already know.
- Correct any misconceptions that pop up.
Independent Online Research Activity

- Give students 30 minutes to research the activism movements and listen to the songs via headphones.
- They can choose what most interests them.
