Lesson 5: Presentations
Lesson Overview
In this lesson, students will have the opportunity to reflect on the unit and the songwriting process, and share their songs with the class.
Materials to Download
Opening Activity
- Congratulate students for getting to the point of understanding how to create songs and the different elements that make up a song.
- They were able to accomplish this through listening to Indigenous artists of the Pacific Northwest and getting a perspective that they may not have heard before.
Final Edits
Provide students some time to finish making edits to their songs.
Teacher’s Note: It would be ideal if students were able to write down their lyrics on a piece of paper, however, if they are writing it on a laptop, it would be good to be able to print their lyrics off for them for the final presentations.
Presentations and Reflection
√ Distribute Reflection Handout
This handout will allow students to comment on what they enjoyed of their peers work.
Student Presentations. At this point, there could be multiple ways of presenting the students songs.
- One way could be to collect everyone’s songs and hang them up in the room and create a gallery walk, so that everyone can look at their peers work.
- Another option is to project each students work on a Smartboard so the whole class will be able to see each individual song together.
- This would be a good time to ask the class which idea they like the best. The first may provide more anonymity for those that don’t want to be on the spotlight.
Allow for students to give constructive feedback or celebrations on each others songs. Allow for a discussion that is kind, helpful, and specific for peer feedback.
